As I am in lab yet again, I pondered on what all of us are doing here. When I say here I mean in college pushing forth in our journey to a higher education, higher occupation, higher lifestyle, aspirations, whatever it is. Today I was met with more than one occurrence of frustration. Frustration and confusion over what classes to take, confusion due to apathetic advisors who don’t have the entire knowledge need to advise anyone. There was also frustration over having to do lab procedures over and over and over again just to fail yet again knowing that this is the nature of research, but still being frustrated. There is also this sense that school is a necessary task not for enjoyment but for a guarantee that success will be achieved whether you like what you’re doing to get the success. School is a means to an end. I am sorry to say that this is what I overhear in conversations, or what I personally observe. One friend of mine even said blatantly that she hates all of her classes and is only pursuing college for the better chance of making a more than sufficient amount of money. She is torturing herself for the security of money, but isn’t that what we are all doing? We may like or tolerate what we are doing in college, but if we could do what we really enjoy and be guaranteed or have a good chance that we would receive payment of some sort, wouldn’t we pursue our even stronger dreams? I think yes. Now some of us in this higher institution are doing what we truly want and that is wonderful, but others are treating it as a necessary evil. In my opinion we all need to take college as an advantage, a tool, a gift even though we have no choice on whether to pursue or not. We need to respect it and not abuse it. So yes, you may hate the journey, but the where we are all going will pay off. Just enjoy the little things along the way and don’t do it alone. Well, that was my babbling on a little something. Take care.
