Okay so this just occurred to me. There is this counter-culture called Hipsters. Yes. Hipsters. The thing is. I had no idea they even existed considering that Austin is overrun with them. The bicycles. American Apparel and Urban Outfitters on the drag right off campus clad with cashiers with gauges and huge glasses. The dirty looking people who have Daddy’s fortune in their purse. The Buffalo Exchange (which I love) that sells second hand hippy clothing. Why I thought it was just a trend, however I was wrong. It is a full blown culture. I am embarrassed to say that I have bought a pair of faux glasses, but have luckily not worn them in public for fear of looking like a fool….or hipster. Apparently they come in different races such as “Blipsters” and “Hipspanics”. I was also reading some other writings if you will of this phenomenon. Apparently hipsters love indie bands and underground artists and since I am black and all….erm….the blipsters listen to Lupe Fiasco, Pharrel Williams from N.E.R.D., and other hip hop hipsters…Um, first of all I liked those people way before this culture came about! (In my defense.) To make this blurb less blurby I am going to say that I might have hipster….blipster…. tendencies from the sole fact that the entire culture around me is hipster. Shoot I just thought it was environmentally friendly to ride your bike and eat organic food. No. It is a trend apparently….sorry for not driving a car? Anyways I sign off on that note that my afro will forever have life despite what a counter-culture or society says. I love my ‘fro
