Alright. Since I am now in my second year…well, since I just finished my second year of undergrad (yikes!) and will never have “teen” in my age ever again (I am 20…*shudders*), I feel that I am finally growing up. It is a scary thing actually. It is fun and not fun at the exact same time as well. I also don’t like the “learning about life” aspect either. It is cliché and I am sick of revealing the truthiness of it! So to see if you are growing up as well, here are a few things that I came up with as sure signs that you are becoming a mature young lady or gentleman:
1. You want to go back home less and less
Home is just not home like it used to be. Now you go home to retreat back to childhood. You go home for a home-cooked meal, to be pampered by your mom and dad, laundry service (if you’re a good kid), because school’s out, for money, or just to say hey to good old mom and dad!
2. Your parents say “Well, you’re an adult now…” and “Oh you know everything, right? You’re 20 and now evverrryyyyythingggg, right? Puh-lease.” in different situations to favor themselves in certain situations.
When you ask them specific questions, screw up, make a mistake or legitimately don’t know how to do something, you are suddenly an adult and have to figure it out by yourself or take the hard hit. Yes, we are technically adults, but goodness! Then, when you have an idea or new philosophy, recently learned advice or view on something, you are quickly reduced to a child.
3. You and your parents start laughing at the same jokes
This may only be me, but it’s a sad occurrence.
4. Disappointment…
Yes I am going to go all somber and depressing but ‘tis true! Unless I was truly sheltered as a child (meh, yes that may be true), I have never really experienced disappointment! But alas I finally have…in all aspects of life. This is where it becomes cliché…I have learned life lessons! I have learned to keep calm and carry on!
5. You’re stiff when you stand up from sitting
I think I am just out of shape
6. Partying isn’t that cool anymore…at least to me
The typical going to a house party or frat party or just party jumping and crashing all those random parties…yeah…that ain’t cool anymore. Dressing up in cute dresses and painfully cute heels (though still fun every now and then) and hittin’ the town…that gets old. Real quick. Sloppy, drunk people…also get old real quick.
7. You start having dinner parties…
Maybe this is a just a cry to be sophisticated…
8. You become actively political
Guess who’s voting and protesting and rallying now!? Oh yeah!
9. Everyone starts pairing up and wedding bells are near.
I didn’t think it would be like this until I was at least 25, but I am seeing some couples who are bound to get married in the next year or so. I didn’t get the memo…Oh wait! Maybe it’s because the world is ending annnnnnnd no one wants to die alone? Oi! It’s too early to be married! Life needs to be lived before a boring routine of family life comes in.
10. You are desperate for a job
No more public high school…dad’s check book’s getting hit realllll hard.
11. Your social life must not affect your school work
This is from high school, but I never had a social life in high school and never had to deal with this. College. That’s a totally different story…
