My Dad came up to Austin to visit me yesterday. We were shooting iReports for CNN, one of his new passions. Nothing extremely special or significant was to be expected, not that having your Dad come up isn’t special… Anyways, I was going to have an awesome fun day with dad. Father/Daughter time for the win. When I got into my dad’s car, we chit chatted a bit, but it seemed…off. Suddenly he says, “Ashley, I have a surprise for you”. Of course I don’t know what it is. I am thinking a bunny, a dog, maybe some really good food mom packed up (that is an awesome gift anyone could give me), or maybe a bottle of wine in light of my approaching 21st birthday. Well, I was dead wrong. He got me a new laptop! I was absolutely stoked. First, after having adding Windows 7, Office 2010, and a bunch of not so legally watched movies to my computer. It took a serious beating. I have had to recover it many times, but the overall setback to my old computer (which is not more than 4 years old) was that it overheated like crazy. I would be in the middle of Madmen or Trueblood and it would start to choke. Choke as in the show would suddenly skip, it would do this dubstep cough and the image would blink. Then, the fan would increase and speed and the whole machine would shut off. This was insanely annoying considering I would watch a ton of online TV shows and movies. So when dear old dad rolls up with this spankin’ new gadget I was floored. It is light, thin, and fast. It does everything that I need when I need it. It doesn’t have too many features that I don’t use or need and has the right amount of features for optimal use. A perfect fit is an understatement. Having things that just work is a flipping blessing. If anyone is curious to what laptop I received, here you go:
The HP Folio 13-1020us Notebook PC: It may not look like much, but it is awesome! Aluminum and all.
