Summer has long since begun. The graduation statuses and pictures are starting to die down. Many peers have left for Europe and Africa and June is fast approaching. The obvious signs of Summer have risen:
- Increased time watching TV, Hulu, Netflix, cable movie channels, and Vudu that you wouldn’t have otherwise watched due to classes
- Eating has gotten creative…or lazy. You either cook elaborate meals because you have time or you pick up a meal that takes the least amount of effort
- Losing track of the days of the week has become commonplace
I know Summer has started when I spend the last few weeks of May at my parent’s house (gosh that sounds weird!). It’s not like they don’t pay my rent, though. I just call it their house considering I don’t live there for most of the year and considering that the census doesn’t include me in this current household. This is beside the point.
What I have been up to so far the past few days is eating. My mom has cooked some delicious meals–the reason why I love coming home. We both want to lose weight and tone up (finals week has added some inches), but her cooking is definitely not helping. This is what we call the Willies diet:
Okra, corn, sausage stew with rice and fried plantains. A mixture of creole and Panamanian cooking right here. The only healthy things are the tomatoes and the avocado, but lets get real. The unhealthy selections definitely taste the best. The recipes are to be posted soon.
Vegetable soup and Apple pie were Dad’s birthday choices since these are two of his favorite dishes among many. It may not seem like much but both are to die for. The vegetable soup is so savory you don’t even miss the lack of carbs or meat. The apple pie (according to dad for I don’t like apple pie) is a sin. Yup, this diet is going along great…
I have started a workout regimen though with mom. Jazzercise every morning. Don’t knock it ‘til you try it. I am in pain and am tired all day long. Don’t even mention the increased irritability and appetite, but my will my body love me later. So, to anyone reading this I hope your Summers are going swell. Mine will be full of MCAT come June. Chao!
