This all started out with me traveling this summer by myself. It isn’t anything spectacular considering I stayed within the continental US and many people have been doing this since they were like 13, but for me it is a little more than ordinary. I am currently in the Phoenix airport at this adorable restaurant called Blanco Tacos and Tequila. As you walk down the terminal you can smell the scent of fajita meat and tequila, and hear the higher than average decibel of chatter noise along with salsa beats as travelers fuel up in quite a swanky way I may add. I wasn’t going to stop at the restaurant, but McDonald’s and Burger King weren’t tickling my fancy. Thank goodness I came back. I am full on fish tacos, cilantro rice, and black beans and don’t have that sick grease feeling you get after you pig out on fast food.
Now, the growing up part. This could due to my recent birthday of 21, but I feel old being able to sit next to alcohol. Yes, sit. I am still not comfortable with ordering a beer or a glass wine just yet because I still feel like I am breaking the law and picture myself looking like a 14 year old behaving badly. If I may add, I was taken more seriously as well. I was approached like an equal and wasn’t greeted with that annoying high pitch voice everyone habitually uses to greet young ones. I was their age! Success! Like a sheltered nerd I Skyped my parents while in the restaurant to show them how cool I was. Of course they laughed at me. Parents Pshhhh.
In other observances, I noticed the UEFA Euro tournament was playing on three screens with CNN on the other. I don’t know if it was because I wasn’t previously aware or because I was young, but last time I checked, mainly American-born sports like basketball and football, not soccer, were played and Fox was frequently showed. Sign of the times, man.
