Hello!
As some of you know, I am now living in San Diego, California for school and boy has it been a transition! First of all this is one of the first times I have had down time by myself. My mom and dad drove with me out west and set me all up and I have been hanging out with family and getting settled ever since. It feels like a marathon, but I am excited.
So, what have I been up to? Well, a lot, but today is my first day of classes and wanted to start off the academic summer with some good choices. So I headed right across the street-I live near everything it is awesome– to Ralph’s and Trader Joe’s, the best option considering I live right next to Whole Paycheck Foods. To my excitement, this little spender did well on groceries! I bought a bunch of healthy stuff from both stores since my old Texas favorite, HEB, is gone. So sad! Mama would be proud of the choices I made and how I bought within a good budget! Um, can I say $20!? Well, give or take $7 because I bought some chai latte mix and granola and people are really proud of their stuff, but I was happy anyways.
You know what is another good thing about my purchases? They were mostly animal-free! I got some eggs because I have an addiction to egg sandwiches and got Greek yogurt, but I refrained from buying cheese and meat! I can’t celebrate too much because I have cheese and chicken breast at home because my mom was staying with me for a bit while getting me settled in, BUT I am slowly becoming less and less animal product-reliant. They do say to do it in steps because when I attempted cold-turkey, I just cheated. I have already given up cow’s milk completely and have replaced it with coconut milk or soy milk. I love almond milk but I have a slight allergy to it. I also have been reading In Defense of Food and I love it! Gosh, so much good stuff.
Anyways, class doesn’t start until 4:30 and my roommate and I are very anxious to begin our studies! We even studied last night and this morning before class. Yikes. We better keep this up! Until another time, bye! It is time to walk to class!
